We all want the best for ourselves, especially when it comes to health and wellness. Unfortunately, too often, there is no clear-cut answer on achieving long-term success when facing an addiction or mental health issue. That is why evidence-based therapies are so important – they provide guidance and support through a combination of research-backed and clinically proven approaches.
At Studio 64 Recovery, we use evidence-based therapies to help those struggling with addiction create lasting lifestyle changes backed by science. Through this method, we provide the tools necessary to help individuals and families thrive with long-term recovery in mind. We sincerely believe everyone deserves a chance at ongoing happiness – something evidence-based therapies can help you achieve.
Evidence-based therapies are treatments that use scientific evidence to support the claims of their ability to treat addiction or mental health disorders. In other words, these therapies can be proven to improve recovery outcomes in those who use them. These types of therapies include:
This is one of the most widely used counseling approaches for treating substance use disorders, anxiety and depression. This is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on altering negative thinking in order to help individuals handle life’s difficulties. During one-on-one sessions, our highly trained mental health professionals use CBT to change negative thinking patterns and employs goal-oriented strategies to help patients manage their symptoms, avoid relapse, learn coping mechanisms, and overcome emotional trauma.
This type of therapy focuses on understanding and managing emotions, as well as healthy definitions of emotions. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a form of CBT that was created in the 1980s to assist those with borderline personality disorder. Individuals with addiction and other mental health issues can benefit from DBT’s behavioral lessons. These lessons help people handle their emotions, improve their relationships, resolve disputes, and manage stress. DBT combines individual therapy and group education to promote behavioral development, mindfulness, acceptance, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
This therapy helps individuals explore and resolve ambivalence around change by focusing on motivation and intentions to change. This is a method of motivating patients to alter their behavior. It is frequently applied in drug and alcohol addiction treatment and in the management of physical ailments. Clients become motivated to alter their behaviors that negatively impact their health. Patients who are unmotivated or uninterested in changing are ideal candidates for this approach. Those hostile to the notion of transformation are also suitable.
Family therapy is a type of psychological counseling (psychotherapy) that can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts. Family therapy programs look different depending on who’s being treated and who’s involved, but they are all designed to help improve family-relationships and functioning, and support the person in recovery.
Among all addiction treatment programs, relapse prevention is a specific approach dedicated to preventing future relapses. A skills-based, cognitive-behavioral approach, relapse prevention aims to identify and overcome triggering situations. For example, substance abuse triggers are addressed by challenging the positive expectations associated with its use and coping skills are developed.
12-step facilitation is a method to inspire active affiliation with self-help groups. The three key ideas of this therapy are accepting the disease model of addiction, surrendering to a higher power, and adhering to recovery activities, all of which are active involvement in AA and NA meetings and other related activities. Patients may benefit from this type of therapy by receiving long-term recovery support, receiving a judgment-free environment, and accessing a peer community.
Substance abuse problems cant be treated using acceptance and commitment therapy, a cognitive-behavioral approach that emphasizes acceptance, mindfulness, and personal values. The primary goal of ACT is to help patients develop the mental flexibility to deal with issues without using substances. Strategies to endure emotionally challenging or painful situations (for example, cravings, avoidance of negative emotions, thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations) are developed as part of the process.
EMDR is a form of therapy that uses bilateral eye movements to help reprocess memories and reduce the negative emotions associated with them. The theory behind EMDR is that when we experience a traumatic event, our brains cannot process the experience properly. This can lead to the development of negative beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. EMDR is thought to help by working with the brain’s natural healing process to help us reprocess these experiences in a more healthy way.
There are many advantages to using evidence-based therapy. The first and most significant advantage is getting you back on track and helping you heal mentally alongside physical recovery.
EBT has been shown to be an effective treatment for various conditions, including addiction. It has also been found to help reduce anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms in people battling addiction.
The two main goals of Evidence Based Therapy when used to treat alcohol abuse or drug addiction are to increase the quality of treatment and Increase patient accountability.
